The Department of life sciences at the Faculty of science at the University of Mosul held four scientific seminars for graduate students, on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, in the Hall of Professor Dr. Qusay Chalabi, in the presence of a number of department teachers and graduate students. The seminars were initiated by a presentation by master’s student Yusra Mohammed Jassim (branch of Zoology), entitled: “Toxic and repellent effect of turmeric oil against housefly (Musca domestica)” The seminar discussed the evaluation of the toxic and repellent effectiveness of turmeric oil against housefly, with the aim of exploring natural and safe alternatives to chemical pesticides that can be used in insect control programs. The second seminar was presented by master’s student Saraa Saleh Saeb (branch of Zoology), entitled: “Evaluation of the Expression of Genes Associated with the Immune Response in Neutrophils Infected with Leishmania tropica” He studied the level of gene expression of genes associated with the immune response in neutrophils infected with the Leishmania tropica parasite, which contributes to the understanding of the immune mechanisms of infection and the development of related studies. While Master’s student Esra Riad Ahmed (Botany branch) presented the third seminar, entitled: “The use of yeasts in improving soil fertility and enhancing agricultural sustainability” The seminar highlighted the role of yeasts in improving soil fertility and increasing its bio-efficiency, and their potential to support sustainable agriculture practices and reduce dependence on chemical fertilizers. The seminars concluded with a presentation by master’s student Ahmed Haider Attiya (Botany branch), entitled: “The use of crumple plant extracts as natural alternatives to promote sustainable agriculture” The seminar dealt with the study of the efficiency of crumple plant extracts in agricultural applications as environmentally friendly natural alternatives, and their role in supporting sustainable agricultural production. These seminars were completed under the supervision of Professor Dr. Munif Abdul Mustafa for the first Seminar, Professor Dr. Sinai Abdullah Ali for the second seminar, assistant professor Dr. Badia Abdul Razzak Jamal for the third seminar, and assistant professor Dr. Wassan Saleh Hussein for the fourth seminar.
