Scientific and cultural visit to the great Nuri mosque in Mosul

In the interest of the College of Science in the Centers of worship and religious monuments, a scientific and cultural visit was organized to the great Nuri mosque in Mosul

As part of the scientific and cultural activities of the College of Science, the advisory committee of the Department of chemistry and the Department of new and renewable energies organized a scientific and cultural visit to the great Nori mosque on Thursday, October 30, 2025, with the participation of a group of teachers and students.

The purpose of the visit was to introduce students to the ancient archaeological and historical sites in Mosul, and to strengthen the spirit of belonging and pride in the cultural heritage of the city, which is one of the oldest centers of Science and knowledge in the region.

The delegation was received by the administrators of the mosque, where she presented a historical overview of the mosque, which is one of the most prominent landmarks of Mosul and one of its religious and civilizational symbols, as its construction dates back to the sixth century AH, and is famous for its humpbacked minaret, which is a symbol of the city.

The program of the visit also included a review of the reconstruction and reconstruction efforts of the mosque after the damage caused to it, and an introduction to the ongoing restoration stages carried out under the supervision of the Antiquities and Heritage Authority and with the support of international organizations concerned with the preservation of cultural heritage. The participants expressed their admiration for the site and its historical and architectural significance.

At the end of the visit, the heads of the two departments expressed their thanks and appreciation to the administration of the great Al-Nuri mosque for the good reception and cooperation.
