The college of Archaeology held a workshop entitled “The Origin and Development of Cuneiform”
delivered by Professor Steffen Maul
Director of the Institute of Assyriological Studies at the University of Heidelberg and Head of the German Excavation Mission
on Wednesday, April 30, 2025
in the Dr. Bahnam Abu al-Suf Hall
attended by Professor Dr. Yasmin Abdul Karim Muhammad Ali, Dean of the college, and a large number of college staff and students.
Professor Steffen Maul tacked the origin and stages of cuneiform, the development of cuneiform, examples of clay tablets bearing a specific system of numbers and pictorial signs, and the method of reducing them. He also addressed phonetic syllabic writing, Sumerian-Akkadian dictionaries, and the materials used in recording signs.
