The College of Excellence for Archaeology and Tourism Participates in a Seminar on Mosul Manuscripts

Professor Dr. Yaser Jaber Khalil, Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs at the College of Excellence for Archaeology and Tourism, participated in a cultural seminar entitled “Nicola al-Sayufi… and the Manuscripts of Mosul,” organized by the French Institute in cooperation with the Al-Khaimah Foundation for Development and Peacebuilding.

The seminar was delivered by Professor Dr. Abdullah Al-Rashidi, who shed light on the life and work of Nicola al-Sayufi, a researcher, historian, and French Consul in Mosul during the nineteenth century. He highlighted al-Sayufi’s role in documenting the history of the city, its architectural and religious landmarks, and its historical inscriptions. He also emphasized the significance of his writings and manuscripts in preserving Mosul’s historical memory and reflecting its civilizational and cultural diversity.

The seminar was attended by the French Consul, Father Raed Adel, Head of the Foundation, and a number of University of Mosul staff members. The event aimed to promote interest in the city’s cultural and historical heritage and foster the exchange of knowledge and expertise among academic and cultural institutions.

The participation of Professor Dr. Yasser Jaber Khalil reflects the College of Excellence for Archaeology and Tourism at the University of Mosul’s commitment to supporting cultural and academic activities that contribute to promoting awareness of Mosul’s rich history and preserving its civilizational heritage.
