Master’s Thesis on “Exploring the Techniques of Translating English Subtitles into Arabic : A Pedagogical Study” 🎬
The Department of Translation at the College of Arts debated a Master’s thesis titled: “Exploring the techniques of translating English into Arabic subtitles: A Pedagogical study.”
The defense took place on Sunday, October 19, 2025, and was attended by the Dean of the College, Prof. Dr. Hatem Fahd Al-Tai, the Head of the Department, Dr. Hala Khalid Najm, and several faculty members.
Study Focus and Objectives
The research, submitted by student Mohammed Akram Younis in the Department of Translation, explored the subtitling techniques used by translation students when translating from English to Arabic. It also examined the application of Gottlieb’s strategies in subtitling.
The study aimed to:
- Identify the difficulties students face in subtitling on both linguistic and cultural levels.
- Analyze the impact of teaching subtitling techniques on students’ performance.
