The Arabic Language Department was established in 1993. The department aims to achieve excellence in providing distinguished scientific, educational and pedagogical services in the sciences of the Arabic language and its literature, at the bachelor’s and postgraduate levels, and in the fields of teaching, scientific research, and local community service. It awards a bachelor’s degree in the Arabic language and its literature to grant The graduate has the status of a university teacher. The department’s teaching specialization includes language: grammar, morphology, rhetoric, and dictionary, ancient literature (pre-Islamic, Islamic, and Umayyad) and modern literature (story, novel, and poetry). Some of them hold the degrees of professor, assistant professor, teacher, and assistant teacher. In the year (2005-2006) postgraduate studies were opened in the department, including a Master’s in Literature and a Master’s in Language, and in the year (2012-2013) a doctoral degree was opened. The department’s building contains a room for the head of the department, two rooms adjacent to his office director and another for the morning and evening courses, and four rooms for male and female teachers. In addition to six classrooms, the department seeks to graduate qualified teachers who work to improve the level of Arabic language teaching in schools. And contributing to the formation of specialized staff in language and literature through postgraduate studies. In addition to contributing to scientific activities by holding seminars and conferences in the department and supplementing cultural and scientific life with the contributions of department professors at the University of Mosul and other universities inside and outside Iraq.
