The College of Basic Education at the University of Mosul discussed a master’s thesis on (Al-Hafiz Ibn Rajab Al-Hanbali’s Methodology in Defecting Hadiths – A Critical Study in His Book “Al-Takhwif Min Al-Nar”) on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, in the Umm Al-Rabi’in Hall at the college.
The thesis submitted by the student (Louay Qasim Salem Saleh Al-Akeedi) from the Department of Islamic Education, (aimed to reveal the approach of Al-Hafiz Ibn Rajab Al-Hanbali (may Allah have mercy on him) in his criticism of the hadiths, and to identify their defects by studying his opinions in his book “Al-Takhwif Min Al-Nar wa-Ta’rif Bi-Dar Al-Bawar”, and to demonstrate his distinction in dealing with chains of transmission, and to demonstrate the scholars’ praise of him and his leadership in religion.)
The study touched on several axes, including: (The concept of defect and its types, defect by illusion, defect by sending: (contradiction of the sent with the connected), defect by stopping: (contradiction of the stopped with the marfu’), defect by interruption, defect by disagreement on the narrator, defect by misprinting, and defect by strangeness)….
The study reached several results, including: (Highlighting the Hadith craftsmanship of Al-Hafiz Ibn Rajab Al-Hanbali through studying the hadiths that he declared defective in his book “Al-Takhwif Min Al-Nar wa-Ta’rif Bi-Dar Al-Bawar”)….
The discussion committee was chaired by Professor Dr. Ibrahim Saleh Mahmoud Al-Sabaawi, and the membership included Professor Dr. Abdul Salam Ibrahim Majeed, Assistant Professor Dr. Saad Farman Mahmoud, and Assistant Professor Dr. Abu Dhar Luqman Muhammad Amin Al-Habar as members and supervisors.
