Master’s thesis in the College of Basic Education on “Translanguaging: A Study of EFL University Teachers and Students’ Use and Perception”

The College of Basic Education at the University of Mosul discussed a master’s thesis on “Language Mobility: A Study of its Use and Perception by English Language Teachers and Students as a Foreign Language at the University Level.” The discussion took place on Thursday, October 16, 2025, in the Umm Al-Rabi’in Hall at the college. The thesis was attended by the Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs, Assistant Professor Dr. Ahmed Raad Ibrahim, and a number of instructors from the English Language Department.

The thesis submitted by student Raghda Wael Suleiman from the English Department aimed to study the use and perception of translanguaging strategies by teachers and students at the university level.

The study addressed several topics, including: the concept of language mobility and its dimensions, its strategies in university classrooms, its trends between teachers and students, and its impact on students’ understanding and motivation.

The study reached several conclusions, the most important of which is that teachers and students frequently use translanguaging and recognize its benefits in improving comprehension and classroom participation.

The discussion committee was chaired by Professor Dr. Muhammad Basil Qasim, and included Assistant Professor Dr. Iman Ibrahim Khadir, Assistant Professor Dr. Arwa Luay Abdul Khaliq, and Professor Dr. Ansam Ali Ismail as members and supervisors.
