on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, in the Umm Al-Rabeeain Hall at the college.
The study, submitted by the student Zahraa Yassin Hassan, examined the relationship between the elite and the rulers of Al-Andalus, which represented an important aspect of Andalusian history, as the elite formed an integrated administrative body within society. The rulers relied on elite figures such as ministers, judges, scribes, military leaders, and religious scholars in governing the country.
The strength of the ruler was closely connected to the nature of his relationship with the elite. If the ruler succeeded in gaining their support, his authority increased; however, if the relationship deteriorated, rebellions became more frequent, weakening his power. Consequently, the relationship between rulers and the elite had significant effects on religious, economic, social, political, and scientific aspects of life.
The study highlighted the nature of the relationship between rulers and the elite as an important historical topic. The book Nafh al-Tib by Al-Maqqari was selected because it contains valuable information about rulers and elite figures during the Emirate and Caliphate eras in Al-Andalus.
The dissertation was divided into an introduction and five chapters. The introduction discussed the author’s life, his era, and his book. The first chapter focused on the general framework of the concepts of rulers and the elite in Al-Andalus. The second chapter addressed the social relations between Andalusian rulers and the elite. The third chapter examined the موقفs of Andalusian rulers toward the elite, while the fourth chapter focused on the role of the elite in supporting the Andalusian court. The fifth chapter discussed the impact of the relationship between rulers and the elite in Al-Andalus. The study concluded with a conclusion and appendices.
