Master’s Thesis at the College of Basic Education on Iran’s Policy toward the Palestine Liberation Organization (1964–1993): A Historical Study

The College of Basic Education at the University of Mosul discussed a Master’s thesis in Modern History entitled “Iran’s Policy toward the Palestine Liberation Organization (1964–1993): A Historical Study” on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, in Al-Hadbaa Hall at the college.

The thesis, presented by Ahmed Dawood Latif, from the Department of History, specializing in Modern History, provided a comprehensive study of Iran’s policy toward the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) during the period 1964–1993. The study followed a chronological approach in presenting events and developments while organizing them according to thematic units within each chapter.

The study aimed to shed light on Iran’s policy toward the PLO during two distinct phases of governance in Iran: the reign of Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi and the period following the Iranian Revolution of 1979. It also examined the main reasons and determinants shaping Iran’s policy toward the organization and the Palestinian cause in general, as well as the significant role played by Iran after 1979. Furthermore, the study addressed the peace conferences held between 1991 and 1993 and Iran’s position toward them.

The examination committee was chaired by Professor Dr. Ali Hamza Abbas.

The committee members included:

  • Assistant Professor Dr. Naktal Abdulhadi
  • Assistant Professor Dr. Hind Fakhri Saeed

The thesis was supervised by and included Professor Dr. Mohammed Salem Ahmed Al-Kawwaz as a committee member.
