A Master’s thesis entitled “Political Marriages between the Armenians and the Crusaders and Their Impact on the Islamic–Crusader Conflict (490–690 AH / 1096–1291 AD)” was defended at the College of Basic Education, University of Mosul. The thesis was submitted by the student Hamza Abdullah Abdul-Jabbar Al-Wazzan on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, in the hall of the College of Political Science.

The study aimed to investigate the reasons and utilitarian ties that motivated the ruling Armenian and Crusader families at that time to establish marital alliances, highlight the roles played by the parties involved in governance, examine the extent to which these familial ties affected the Islamic powers, and explore how Muslim leaders dealt with such alliances.

The study reached several conclusions, most notably that the marriages established between the Armenians and the Crusaders were not merely familial relationships, but were primarily intended to achieve political and military objectives. The study also demonstrated that marital and kinship relations played an active role in prolonging the Crusader presence in the Levant for two centuries. Furthermore, these alliances provoked decisive and escalating Islamic responses, as successive Islamic powers joined forces to confront this common coalition and limit its expansion.
