Discussion of a master’s thesis in the Faculty of Computer Science and Mathematics – Department of Statistics and Informatics

The Faculty of Computer Science and Mathematics at the University of Mosul has discussed a master’s thesis entitled:Air pollution prediction using wavelet and recursive neural networks based on multiple linear regression model. For the student Khitam Walid Qadir Gerges, under the supervision of the teacher, Dr. Osama Bashir Hannoun. The study of air pollution forecasting was discussed, the importance of which lies in knowing its impact on humans, animals, plants and other living organisms on the earth’s surface. The data of the PM 10 variable was used as a reliable variable to measure air pollution, which is affected by several explanatory variables related to conditions, changes, and atmospheric conditions, as there is a close relationship between the concentration of air pollution and the variables that affect the weather. Multiple linear regression (MLR) model was used to predict air pollution, taking into account the effects of the corresponding meteorological variables. Also, intelligent methods such as the recursive neural network and the use of the wavelet analysis method were used in addition to the use of hybrid methods from the proposed methods based on the multiple linear regression model.

The discussion committee consisted of:
1- Prof. Zakaria Yahya El-Gammal – President
2- Assist. Prof. Dr. Hiam Abdel Majid Hayawi – Member
3- Assist. Prof. Dr. Rizgar Maged Ahmed – Member
3- Assist. Prof. Dr. Osama Bashir Hannoun – Member and Supervisor
The student obtained a master’s degree in statistics.
