Discussion of a master’s thesis in the College of Computer Science and Mathematics – Department of Computer Science entitled: Building artificial intelligence tools for cybersecurity
A master’s thesis (Building Artificial Intelligence Tools for Cyber Security) was discussed in the discussion room at the College of Computer Science and Mathematics at the University of Mosul on Wednesday 12/1-2022, under the supervision of Dr. Omar Abdel Moneim Ibrahim.
This thesis dealt with different types of cyber-attacks and the tools used to prevent and protect against these attacks, and artificial intelligence-based tools were built to detect and categorize the most prevalent and most dangerous of these attacks, namely malware, which includes a group of (Adware, ransomware, scareware, SMS-malware), by monitoring network traffic.Where the study touched on the use of machine learning techniques to build six tools to detect malware based on algorithms
Decision Tree, Random Forest, eXtreme Gradient Boosting, k-Nearest Neighbors, Logistic Regression, Multi-Layer Perceptron.
Deep learning techniques have also been used to build two network-based malware classification tools
Deep Dense Layer, Long Short-Term Memory.The study aims to detect and classify malicious programs before infecting the victim’s device through internet monitoring. It also aims to obtain the highest detection accuracy of the proposed tools in the shortest time by comparing the results with the results of previous work based on the data of the Canadian Institute of Cyber Security.
The discussion committee was chaired by Prof. Dr. Sufyan Tayeh Faraj – University of Anbar / College of Computer Science and Information Technology, with the membership of Prof. Dr. Laheeb Muhammad Ibrahim – University of Mosul / College of Computer Science and Mathematics, and Assistant Professor Dr. Mafaz Mohsen Khalil – University of Mosul / College of Computer Science and Mathematics, with supervision and membership Dr. Omar Abdel Moneim Ibrahim.
