Discussion of a master’s thesis in the College of Computer Science and Mathematics – Department of Statistics and Informatics by Sari Muhammad Jamal Al-Din Hussein Al-Alawi
Discussion of a master’s thesis in the College of Computer Science and Mathematics – Department of Statistics and Informatics entitled (Employing the hidden Markov model in distinguishing protein-encoded genes)On Sunday, February 13, 2022, the College of Computer Science and Mathematics at the University of Mosul was discussed, the master’s thesis was submitted by Sari Muhammad Jamal Al-Din Hussein Al-Alawi, under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Muthanna Sobhi Suleiman, the respected.
The thesis submitted by the student dealt with the employment of the hidden Markov model in distinguishing the genes encoding proteins and determining the quality of the nitrogenous base substituted for the gene. The aim of the thesis is to employ the hidden Markov model in the study and analysis of bioinformatics data in distinguishing 13 genes responsible for encoding respiratory chain proteins in mitochondria and determining the quality of the substitutable nitrogen base of the MT-ND5 gene for humans and mice, which were obtained from the NCBI website within the Data Base in International centers specialized in genetic engineering and studying the work of genes, as well as addressing the basic issues of this model.. A computer program was designed for this purpose and the algorithm was programmed in MATLAB. From the results of the practical application on the DNA sequencing and using the proposed algorithm to distinguish and determine the quality of the nitrogenous base substituted, it was concluded that the hidden Markov model was a powerful approach to determine the matching ratio with high classification accuracy and low error sum.The discussion committee was chaired by Prof. Dr. Abdel Rahim Khalaf Rahi from Tigris University College, with the membership of Prof. Dr. Zakaria Yahya Nouri Al-Gamal and the teacher Dr. Fatima Mahmoud Hassan, under the supervision and membership of Assistant Professor Dr. Muthanna Sobhi Suleiman.
