Discussion of a master’s thesis in the College of Computer Science and Mathematics entitled: Variable selection in parametric survival models

Discussion of a master’s thesis in the College of Computer Science and Mathematics – Department of Statistics and Informaticsentitled:Variable selection in parametric survival modelsIn continuation of the scientific research movement and with the follow-up and presence of the Dean of the College of Computer Science and MathematicsProf. Dr. Duha Bashir Abdullah The esteemedIt was discussed in the discussion room at the Faculty of Computer Science and Mathematics at the University of Mosul on Wednesday 26/10/2022Master’s thesis by studentTahadhaher Abed Alaaraji, under the supervision ofProfessor Dr.ZakariyaYahya Nouri Algamal. This study tookNature-inspired algorithms have been used by several researchers as a tool for parametric model parameter estimation and variable selection. The study touchedInvasive weed optimization algorithm (IWO) is proposed. This study aims The Monte-Carlo method is used in simulations to generate data from the exponential, Weibull, and Gomportz regression model according to several factors, such as sample size, censoring rate, and number of explanatory variables. In terms of prediction accuracy and variable selection evaluation, simulation results demonstrated that our proposed method has better results compared with AIC, and BIC. In addition, the result of the real data application, reveals that the proposed method is quite efficient and feasible for estimating the parametric regression models. The discussion committee consists of
