The sixth scientific symposium of the College of Computer Science and Mathematics for the year 2022 entitled (The role of statistics in facing future challenges of climate change)
Under the auspices of the President of the University of Mosul, Professor Dr. Qusay Kamal Al-Din Al-Ahmadi, and under the supervision, follow-up, and presence of the respected Dean of the College of Computer Science and Mathematics, Professor Dr. Dhahi Bashir Abdullah.
The sixth scientific symposium for the year 2022 was held in the College of Computer Science and Mathematics – Department of Statistics and Informatics, tagged: (The role of statistics in facing future challenges of climate change)Monday, 12-12-2022 at 9:30 am, in the discussion room in the Deanship of the College of Computer Science and Mathematics, due to the impact of climate change on the future of the Earth, which is one of the biggest challenges facing humanity today. Climate and environmental events such as high temperatures, floods, environmental pollution and other events have become more extreme and frequent as a result of this change in climate. As this change in climate behavior constituted great pressure and danger to the continuation of human beings and thus to human life, in addition to its negative impact on the global economy. This prompted governments and research institutions concerned with this matter to start understanding and analyzing this behavior through conferences and seminars, until it came in recent days to conclude international agreements under the auspices of the United Nations in order to reduce these risks. In 2017, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) presented its report assessing the impact of climate change on Arab countries. The main role of statistics in managing disasters related to climate change was highlighted during the second forum on statistics, which was held by ESCWA from 6-8 September 2022.
The symposium was opened by reciting verses from the Holy Quran delivered by the assistant teacher Abdullah Al-Qaterji and reading Al-Fatihah on the souls of the martyrs of Iraq. Then the scheduled lectures began
