M.Sc. Thesis for Hani Adil Shukur

M.Sc. Thesis Final Defense

As part of the academic activities of our college and the Department of Computer Science, Hani Adil Shukur successfully passed his M.Sc. final defense of a thesis entitled “Improving Images of Human Nails to Detect Health Problems” on Sept. 11, 2023.

The thesis dealt with the study of analyzing images of human nails as a means of detecting diseases and early diagnosis. The study touched on the use of machine learning and image processing techniques to analyze and classify nail images with the aim of predicting the health status of individuals.

The study aims to analyze the most important diseases and conditions that can be detected through nail images. Create a database containing pictures of the nails of healthy people and those suffering from diseases, and classify these pictures into seven groups of diseases according to the diseases with the help of a specialist doctor. In addition to designing a system that uses image processing techniques to improve the quality of images and extract important information from them to detect a person’s health condition.

This thesis will contribute to the development of a new tool for early detection and prevention of human diseases, as it gives more accurate results than human vision. Because it overcomes the limitations of the human eye in the strength, accuracy, and clarity of information, which may improve healthcare outcomes and reduce healthcare costs. The research findings will also advance the understanding of the possibilities and limitations of machine learning in healthcare.

The scientific committee included the following members:
