Discussion of a higher diploma thesis at the College of Computer Science and Mathematics at the University of Mosul on the design and implementation of data warehouse management system

On Wednesday, February 28, 2024, the Higher Diploma thesis in Computer Science was discussed at the College of Computer Science and Mathematics at the University of Mosul, entitled (Design and Implementation of a Data Warehouse to Manage Specialist Supervision Department in the Representation of the Iraqi Federal Ministry of Education in Erbil) by the student Qaddo Mohammed Noori Qaddo Al-Hayaly, under the supervision of Dr. Rayan Yousif Al-Khayat.

The thesis dealt with the process of creating relational database based on system analysis to manage the data of the Specialist Supervision Department in the Representation of the Iraqi Federal Ministry of Education in the city of Erbil, and then creating a data warehouse by adopting fact tables in order to derive the optimal options that can be invested by decision makers in distributing the work of educational supervisors within the geographical area accurately. The proposed system was developed using the programming language (Microsoft C#) to create the graphical user interface associated with the database created using the application (Microsoft SQL-Serve Management Studio).

The study touched on the process of analyzing the initial system in effect in the Specialist Supervision Department, identifying significant presences at work, linking them to the required relationships using the Entity-Relationship Model, then converting it to the relational model, applying normalization steps to it, and then Designing the organization’s comprehensive database. In the next step, the Database and its Management System were created. The final step was to design and program the data warehouse, the contents of which were extracted using the Star Schema Model, in addition to determine the type of reports required by the decision maker.

The study aims to utilize data warehouse management systems to support the decision maker in the specialized supervision department with reports based on fact tables to support the educational process within the scope of the work of the representation of the Iraqi Federal Ministry of Education in the city of Erbil.
