Discussion of the Higher Diploma Thesis in the College of Computer Science and Mathematics – Department of Computer Science

Titled (Enhancing Password Secrecy Based on Honey Words Generation)

In continuation of the scientific research movement and with the attendance and follow-up of the Dean of the College of Computer Science and Mathematics, Prof.  Dr. Duha Bashir Abdullah,

the Higher Diploma thesis of student (Shahd Abdul Khaliq Saadullah Shihab) was discussed in the discussion hall of the College of Computer Science and Mathematics at the University of Mosul on 7- 4 – 2025, under the supervision of Asst. Prof.  Dr. Saja Jassim Muhammad.

The thesis presented by the student addressed enhancing password security by generating fake passwords (honey) using traditional techniques in addition to intelligent techniques. A comprehensive study was first presented of the traditional techniques and intelligent algorithms used in generating honey passwords, followed by their application in a virtual authentication system and securing access to the system using honey passwords. The study addressed methods and techniques for generating honey words and using them to protect systems from attackers, particularly brute force attacks. The study aims to improve the security of authentication systems based on text passwords and strike a balance between system security and ease of use.
