Master’s thesis by the student “Khalid Dubas Muharib”

Discussion of a Master’s Thesis in the College of Computer Science and Mathematics – Department of Computer Science titled: “A System for Edge and Fog Computing Using Distributed Real Time Containerization”. Continuing the scientific research movement and with the presence and attendance of the respected Dean of the College of Computer Science and Mathematics, Professor Dr. Doha Bashir Abdullah, a Master’s thesis by the student “Khalid Dubas Muharib” was discussed in the discussion hall of the College of Computer Science and Mathematics at Mosul University on Wednesday, 27/8/2025, under the supervision of Professor Dr. Doha Bashir Abdullah.
The message addressed the design and implementation of a fog and edge computing system using distributed containers in real-time in the field of smart agriculture, and its employment in a smart irrigation system, while ensuring the stability of the designed system’s performance and a high level of compatibility across different environments. The study discussed the development of a model for a smart farm that relies on an automated irrigation system, which collects soil moisture data and surrounding environmental conditions through edge devices equipped with sensors distributed in the field, and then transmits this data using LoRa communication technology to fog computing units, which analyze the data and make timely irrigation decisions. The study aims to achieve seamless integration that ensures flexibility across various systems and devices while enhancing performance efficiency by reducing response time and lowering energy and resource consumption through local data processing using fog and edge computing, in addition to improving water consumption management, contributing to sustainable agriculture, thus enhancing the reliability and effectiveness of smart agricultural systems.
The discussion committee consisted of:
Asst. Prof. Dr. Rawa Butrus Boulos as the chair
Asst. Prof. Dr. Riad Zaghloul Mahmoud as a member
Asst. Prof. Dr. Firas Mahmoud Al-Fuqee as a member
Prof. Dr. Duha Basheer Abdullah as a member and supervisor.
