College of Computer Science and Mathematics

Under the patronage of the President of the University of Mosul, Professor Dr. Waheed Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, and the supervision of the Dean of the College of Computer Science and Mathematics, Professor Dr. Duha Bashir Abdullah Al-Bazzaz, the College, in cooperation with the Department of Studies and Planning/Sustainable Development Unit at the University of Mosul, held a scientific workshop entitled “The Importance of Afforestation and Environmental Development” on Tuesday morning, November 25, 2025.

The workshop was presented by Dr. Ghada Mohammed Taher Qasim Al-Dabbagh, who discussed the vital role of afforestation in protecting the environment by purifying the air of harmful gases, increasing oxygen levels, stabilizing the soil and reducing erosion, as well as its contribution to lowering temperatures, enhancing the aesthetics of cities, and improving the quality of life.

The workshop also pointed out that environmental development is based on the optimal use of natural resources and improving air and water quality, in line with the principles of sustainability and supporting a balanced environmental future at the local level.

The workshop addressed ways to encourage community participation in supporting afforestation, through involvement in environmental campaigns, maintaining existing green spaces, raising environmental awareness among students and the community, and encouraging the adoption of small green spaces within educational and residential environments.

This workshop aims to promote a culture of environmental protection within the university community and empower community members to actively contribute to afforestation and sustainability initiatives, in line with the university’s commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
