The College of Computer Science and Mathematics is organizing an awareness seminar on cyber extortion in cooperation with the National Security Agency.

Under the patronage of the President of the University of Mosul, Professor Dr. Waheed Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Computer Science and Mathematics, Professor Dr. Duha Bashir Abdullah Al-Bazzaz, the University Psychological Counseling Unit at the College, in cooperation with the National Security Service/Nineveh Security Directorate, organized a specialized awareness seminar entitled:
“Digital Security First: Combating Cyber Extortion,” on Sunday, November 23, 2025.
The seminar was presented by a number of specialized officers from the Service, in the presence of faculty, staff, and students of the College, as part of efforts to enhance security and digital awareness within the university environment to confront the increasing cyber threats.
The seminar addressed the seriousness of cyber extortion crimes and their psychological, social, and legal effects. It reviewed the most prominent methods of enticement and hacking used by extortionists, while emphasizing the importance of protecting personal data and avoiding sharing sensitive content online. The seminar also addressed mechanisms for reporting cases of blackmail and the legal procedures followed to deal with them, which contributes to raising the level of digital awareness and enabling students and affiliates to take effective preventive steps that protect them from falling victim to these crimes.
