Metaheuristic algorithms are significant concepts for dealing with difficult problems that cannot be solved by classical methods. Metaheuristic algorithms are based on natural phenomena and social interactions of biological entities allowing for a good compromise of exploration and exploitation on the solution space. The Pelican Optimization Algorithm (POA) is one of the promising algorithms among these, owing to its simulation of the cooperative hunting behavior of pelican flocks. Despite its effectiveness and strong exploratory capability in moving toward prey, it sometimes encounters challenges during the exploitation phase. Therefore, there is a need to develop and enhance it to improve solution accuracy and convergence speed when tackling multidimensional problems.
This study deals with important developments on the POA algorithm, as it has been hybridized with other algorithms namely
1- Coati Optimization Algorithm (COA).
2- Walrus Optimization Algorithm (WaOA).
3- Osprey optimization algorithm (OOA).
This has led to significant improvements in the performance of these hybrid algorithms, both in terms of solution accuracy and the efficiency of calculations.
POA has also been improved using Conjugate Gradient techniques, resulting in hybrid versions POA-CG-AZ, POA-CG-AB and POA-CG-AA, which proved superior in speed and accuracy compared to the original.
In addition, these algorithms have been employed in the field of fingerprint derivation, as advanced fingerprint analysis techniques have been developed using MATLAB that focused on edge detection and analysis of important regions that contain distinctive properties such as average optical density, standard deviation, entropy, and identifying the most important regions. The data obtained was reduced by taking advantage of hybrid and advanced algorithms, which increased the accuracy of the fingerprint analysis process, using the hybrid POA algorithm. The results of this analysis confirm the importance of hybrid algorithms as a treatment in the pursuit of effective and accurate solutions, thus enabling the use of such algorithms in bioinformatics analyses, smart systems design, industrial resource management, security fields, and others.
