Master Thesis Viva in the College of Education for Pure Science entitled

” A study of the production of some effective compounds from algae and cyanobacteria and their medical applications ”

The College of Education for Pure Science, University of Mosul, has done the Master Thesis Viva entitled ” A study of the production of some effective compounds from algae and cyanobacteria and their medical applications “,

 

On Saturday, September 16, 2023, the respected Dean of the College, Assistant Professor Dr. Qais Ismail Ibrahim, the Honorable Scientific Associate and Administrative Associate, the Honorable Head of the Department of Biology, and a number of the college’s teachers were attended the viva.

This study, presented by the M.Sc. Student Damia Hazem Mohammed Al-Rawi in the Department of Biology, concluded to isolate and characterize the active compounds of the methanolic extract of some genera of macro green algae (Chara braunii, Spirogyra sp) and microscopic (Cosmarium sp) available in the local environment of the city of Mosul/Iraq. It also studied the possibility of using an economical medium available locally to grow alga Cosmarium.

This study also included the application of the bio-manufacturing technology of silver nanoparticles using algae extracts, which is one of the newly approved methods and has inhibitory effectiveness against bacteria and fungi.

 

The Viva committee was chaired by Asst. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Fadel Hamid \ Northern Technical University / Scientific Technical Institute and the membership of Asst. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Abdullah Mahmoud \ University of Mosul / College of Education for Pure Science, Lecturer Dr. Younis Saadi Saeed \ University of Mosul / College of Education for Pure Science and under the supervision and membership of Asst. Prof. Dr. Mira Ausama Ahmed / University of Mosul / College of Education for Pure Science.
