PH.D. Dissertation Viva in the College of Education for Pure Science entitled ” Preparation and study of new nano-adsorbent materials and their application as adsorbent surfaces in the process of water purification from organic and inorganic pollutants ”
The College of Education for Pure Science, University of Mosul, has done the PH.D. Dissertation Viva entitled ” Preparation and study of new nano-adsorbent materials and their application as adsorbent surfaces in the process of water purification from organic and inorganic pollutants “,
On Monday, June 26, 2023, the College staff including the respected Dean of the College, Assistant Professor Dr. Qais Ismail Ibrahim, the Honorable Scientific Associate and Administrative Associate, the Honorable Head of the Department of Chemistry, and a number of the college’s teachers were attended the viva.
This study, presented by the PH.D. Student Theyab Ghanim Hussein Shibeeb AL-Joubory in the Department of Chemistry, included four main axes, which are:
First /preparing Nano carbons from a cheap and environmentally friendly raw material, which is the leaves of the Sidr plant, and identifying the prepared material using various techniques, which included X-ray diffraction (XRD), infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), and energy dispersive X-rays (EDX).and the scanning electron microscope (SEM) and the transmission electron microscope (TEM), in addition to measuring the surface area of the prepared charcoal (BET).
Second /Preparing some nanomaterial’s such as silver nanoparticles (AgNPS) and Nano magnetic iron oxide (Fe3O4MNPS) and considering them as additives to the activated carbon prepared from primary plant sources to improve some physical properties and biological effectiveness of the prepared Nano carbon (TG1).
Third / Determining the optimal conditions for the adsorption of some heavy elements and chemical pesticides under study, in terms of the range of concentrations used of the adsorbent and the amount of adsorbent needed to reach the equilibrium state and studying the effect of each of the amount of adsorbent, concentration, temperature, pH and contact time on the adsorption of materials contaminated.
Fourth / it included the application of a number of adsorption isotherms (Lanckmayer, Freundlich and Temken) and the calculation of the thermodynamic functions of adsorption and the study of the kinetics of the adsorption system (false first-order equation, false second-order equation, alpha-euge equation and implicit molecular diffusion equation) on the new adsorbent material prepared from primary plant sources (The leaves of the Sidr plant).
• In addition, this study included many secondary themes, which are:
1- A study of some physical properties of the prepared Nano charcoal, as the moisture content was (6%), ash (2.6%), and the density (0.6g/cm3), in addition to measuring the acidity function and it was (7.2),
2- Preparation and identification of a new Nano-adsorbent material from primary plant sources, which is (Sidr leaves), as it was diagnosed by different techniques.
3- The surface area of Nano-activated charcoal was analyzed by using (BET) method.
4- The prepared activated Carbon was used in the study of the adsorption of chemical pesticides and heavy elements under study, as the optimal conditions for the adsorption of these materials were studied,
The Viva committee was chaired by Prof. Dr. Rabah Ali Khalil / University of Mosul / College of Science and the membership of Prof. Dr. Fayez Mohsen Hamed / Tikrit University/ College of Science, Asst.
