Master’s Thesis in the College of Education for Pure Science, Department of Mathematics…

In fulfillment of the fourth goal of the Sustainable Development Goals (Quality Education), a master’s thesis entitled “Hybridization of the Rayleigh-Ritz Method with the Particle Swarm Algorithm for Solving Ordinary Differential Equations” was discussed in the College of Education for Pure Science at the University of Mosul on Thursday, July 24, 2025. The thesis was attended by the Assistant Dean for Administrative Affairs, Assistant Professor Dr. Younis Saadi Saeed, and a number of the faculty members from the department.
The study, presented by the student Fatima Abdul-Kareem Younis Majdal from the Department of Mathematics, proposed an algorithm for hybridizing the Rayleigh-Ritz method with the particle swarm optimization algorithm. This algorithm relies primarily on minimizing the value of the efficiency function. To calculate this function, a discrete least squares weight function was used. Approximate solutions were compared with exact solutions by presenting various examples of linear and nonlinear boundary value problems. In addition, the convergence of the proposed algorithm was demonstrated, and the solutions were both close and highly accurate.
The discussion committee was chaired by Professor Dr. Alaa Abdul-Raheem Ahmed, and Assistant Professor Dr. Azhar Hasan Salo and Assistant Professor Dr. Suhaib Talal Hasan as members, and Assistant Professor Dr. Azzam Salahuddin Younis as both member and supervisor.
The Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs presented a letter of thanks and appreciation to Assistant Professor Dr. Azhar Hasan Salo from the College of Science, University of Duhok, for making an effort to travel and participate in the student’s discussion.
