The Department of Quranic Sciences and Islamic Education at the College of Education for Humanities at the University of Mosul discussed a master’s thesis on: (The narrators who were mentioned by Ibn Hibban in trustworthy ones and documented in his Sahih – a critical study -)
On Wednesday 16/6/2021, a part of it was attended by Prof. Dr. Hazem Thanoun Ismail Al-Sabawi, Dean of the College, and a number of faculty members .
The thesis was presented by the student: (Uday Nuri Allawi Abdul Rahman Al-Khattabi) in the Department of Quranic Sciences and Islamic Education, dealt with Imam Ibn Hibban’s approach to wound and modification and to show the aspects that distinguish him, as he is a great modernizer and an outstanding critic, and his defense of what was challenged, and in his approach to Al-Jarh and Ta’deel, especially in his book Al-Thiqat, which has a lot of controversy around it, and an explanation of the validity of what was attributed to Ibn Hibban of leniency in documentation, is it really leniency, or is it a doctrine specific? to him as to other scholars
The thesis on some of the critical aspects of Ibn Hibban; It is his approach to the wound and the modification, especially his approach to documentation, and some of the drawbacks to it, through an applied study of fifty-one narrators mentioned by Ibn Hibban in the trustworthy ones and trust them in his Sahih, following the opinions of critics in them, and a study of one hadith for each narrator.
The thesis aims to arrive at an accurate description of Ibn Hibban’s (may God have mercy on him) approach to Jarh and Tadheel, and to indicate the validity of the criticisms leveled against his approach in his book Al-Thiqat.
