On Monday, June 16, 2025, the College of Education for Humanities at the University of Mosul held a master’s thesis defense titled “The Narrative Structure in the Poetry of Ibn al-Abbār al-Balansī.” The session was attended in part by Prof. Dr. Saad Ramadan Al-Jubouri, the Head of the Department, and several faculty members.
The thesis, submitted by Qais Salem Ali Khudair Al-Matyouti, focused on analyzing the narrative structure in the poetry of Ibn al-Abbār al-Balansī by tracing the narrative elements in his poetic works. It examined how components such as setting, time, characters, plot, and dialogue were employed in building his poetic texts, in addition to exploring the interplay between poetic and narrative modes.
The study aimed to uncover the underlying narrative elements in Ibn al-Abbār’s poetry and analyze how these were integrated into the overall poetic structure. Rather than stopping at a superficial level, the research delved into the artistic and aesthetic dimensions of these elements and their impact on the reader.
The examination committee was chaired by Prof. Dr. Saleh Weiss Mohammed, and included:
- Prof. Dr. Saad Hamid Younis
- Asst. Prof. Fawaz Ahmed Mohammed
- Prof. Dr. Muthanna Abdullah Mohammed Ali
