Content Analysis of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology Textbooks for the Fifth Grade in Light of Sustainable Development Goals from the Perspective of Their Teachers

Ph.D. Dissertation Defense at the College of Education for Humanities – Department of Educational and Psychological Sciences
A Ph.D. dissertation entitled “Content Analysis of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology Textbooks for the Fifth Scientific Grade in Light of Sustainable Development Goals from the Perspective of Their Teachers” was defended on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, in the History Department Hall at the University of Mosul. The dissertation was submitted by Ali Yassin Taha Ali.
The session was attended in part by the respected Dean of the College of Education for Humanities, Prof. Dr. Saad Ramadan Mohammed Al-Jubouri, the Head of the Department of Educational and Psychological Sciences, and a number of esteemed faculty members.
The dissertation addressed the concept of sustainable development and its goals, emphasizing the importance of integrating these goals—especially within science curricula—given their vital role in promoting societal advancement, conserving resources, and ensuring their optimal use for both present and future generations. Sustainable development also serves to bridge the gap between generations by fostering continuity and responsibility.
The aim of the research was to assess the extent to which the Physics, Chemistry, and Biology textbooks for the fifth scientific grade incorporate the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as viewed by the subject teachers.
The examination committee was chaired by Prof. Dr. Ali Duraid Khalid and included the following members:
