Sustainable Development

Sustainable Development

Sustainability: It is a term that first appeared in the field of environmental sciences and has since evolved and spread widely in all areas, including education.

Environmental sustainability refers to the ability to sustain ecosystems, their diversity, and productivity over time. As for human sustainability, it is our ability to maintain a quality of life in the long term, which depends on preserving the natural world and responsibly using natural resources. In terms of human resources, sustainability is the ability to maintain long-term existence, which in turn has environmental, economic, and social impacts.

Renewable Energy: Sustainability is a collective commitment to addressing current and future energy and climate challenges in innovative and responsible ways, reducing carbon emissions, facilitating carbon reuse, recycling, and disposal. Renewable energy also contributes to addressing climate change, promoting sustainable development, and enhancing economic diversity by reducing carbon emissions and expanding the use of carbon capture, utilization, and storage technologies. By doing so, the international community can continue to grow, achieve sustainability, and align the energy and climate requirements.

Environmental Policy of the College of Engineering: Environmental sustainability policy is an important part of the modern vision of our renewable university, the University of Mosul in general, and the College of Engineering in particular. The environmental policy of the College of Engineering is based on several key axes, including:

  • Raising awareness among university students and faculty members about the concept of environmental sustainability.
  • Undertaking pioneering projects in the field of sustainability through organizing periodic conferences and seminars on environmental pollution in our Arab countries and the world and ways to address or reduce it.
  • Encouraging students and faculty members to conduct scientific research on sustainability-related issues.
  • Attempting to find appropriate solutions and adopting plans and programs for energy conservation and waste management using proper scientific methods.

Programs: The College of Engineering, through its decisions, projects, and programs, strives to achieve the objectives outlined in its environmental policy. The college, led by its esteemed Dean, Dr. Abdulrahim Ibrahim Jasim, its academic and administrative departments, and its teaching and non-teaching staff, collaborate to make the University of Mosul, as a whole, an environmentally friendly green university.
