Discussing the Research of the Iraqi Board (Mosul Centre) in Paediatrics on the Comorbidity of Celiac Disease Due to Gluten Sensitivity and Diabetes Mellitus

The student of the graduation paper of the Iraqi Board (Mosul Centre) in Paediatrics, Riwaz M. Rashid, discussed a clinical study of the accompanying celiac disease due to gluten sensitivity and type 1 diabetes in children on Wednesday 9th February 2022.

The aim of the research is to know the prevalence of gluten sensitivity disease in a group of children with type 1 diabetes as well as the presence of any positive clinical signs or symptoms of gluten sensitivity disease and any effect on the patient’s control and growth of diabetes.

It was found that monitoring the incidence of gluten sensitivity in patients with type 1 diabetes may help improve the control of diabetes, control growth and avoid complications.

The discussion committee consisted of Prof Dr Riyad A. Al-Obaidi (chairman), Assistant Prof Dr Rabiea M. Al-Dabouni (member), Assistant Prof Dr Aws H. Al-Nuaman (member), and Assistant Prof Dr Nada A. Ahmed (member and supervisor).

Part of the discussion was attended by the President of University of Mosul, Prof Dr Qusay K. Al-Ahmadi, the Dean of the College of Medicine, Prof Dr Basil Mohammednather Saeed, some heads and teaching staff of the various scientific departments and a number of postgraduate students.

After the discussion, the committee’s decision was read include accepting the research with the necessary amendments being made.
