Discussing the Research of the Iraqi Board (Mosul Centre) in Paediatrics on Thyroid Disorders in Patients with Insulin-Dependent Diabetes

The graduation thesis of the Iraqi Board student (Mosul Centre) in Paediatrics Ahmed S. Al-Diwachi discussed thyroid disorders in patients with insulin-dependent diabetes in the city of Mosul on Wednesday 9th February 2022.

The aim of the research is to find the relationship between type 1 diabetes in children and adolescents and thyroid disorders, highlighting the feasibility of conducting periodic examination of the thyroid gland for diabetic patients.

It was found that there is a significant percentage of diabetic patients who are clinically and laboratoryly diagnosed with (underactive) thyroid disorders.

The discussion committee consisted of Prof Dr Lamya’ A. Hamoudi (chairman), Assistant Prof Dr Nada A. Ahmed (member), Assistant Prof Dr Mazen M. Al-Sarraf (member), and Prof Dr Riyad A. Al-Obaidi (member and supervisor).

Part of the discussion was attended by the Dean of the College of Medicine, University of Mosul, Prof Dr Basil Mohammednather Saeed, some heads and teaching staff of various scientific departments and a number of postgraduate students.

After the discussion, the committee’s decision was read include accepting the research with the necessary amendments being made.
