A master’s thesis in the Department of Pathology discussed “the prevalence and characterization of hemoglobinopathies in prenuptial examination in Nineveh Governorate” presented by the student Basma A. Younis Mustafa on Sunday 27th December 2020. The thesis aimed to reveal the correlation of red blood cell indicators with different types of hemoglobin variables, while evaluating the effect of iron deficiency anemia on hemoglobin (A2) level. It is found that thalassemia is the most common trait in the region followed by sickle red blood cell disease, hemoglobin type D, then E, then H. The discussion committee consisted of Assistant Prof Dr Ikhlas A. Ali (Chair), Assistant Prof Sana M. Tayyib (Member), Assistant Prof Dr Yusra Ahmed Hussein (Member), and Prof Dr Mona A. Kashmoula (Member and Supervisor). After the discussion, the committee’s decision was read included accepting the thesis with the necessary amendments, and granting the student a master’s degree.
