A master’s thesis in the Department of Physiology discussed “the role of vitamin D and its relationship to type 2 diabetes and the severity of vitamin D deficiency with the occurrence of the disease and its comparison with healthy people” presented by the student Ruaa N. Yahya Ibrahim on Monday 28th December 2020. The thesis aimed to assess the level of vitamin D in newly diagnosed diabetes patients and the extent to which a deficiency of this vitamin was associated with the occurrence of the disease. The study concluded that its deficiency is associated with type 2 diabetes, and that its level is much lower compared to healthy subjects and has an inverse relationship with serum sugar, and that obesity and a family history of diabetes is more prevalent among diabetics compared with healthy people. The discussion committee consisted of Prof Dr Jawad A. SalIh (Chair), Prof Dr Emad A. Dhanoun (Member), Lecturer Dr Zaid Q. Omar (Member), and Assistant Prof Dr Afra’ M. Al-Amin (Member and Supervisor). After the discussion, the committee’s decision was read included accepting the dissertation with the necessary amendments to it, and granting the student a master’s degree.
