The scientific symposium of Mosul Training Centre for General Surgery (Iraqi Council) debated surgical cases that had laparoscopic operations, including large hiatal hernia, lower esophageal stenosis, ruptured water bags in the liver, and appendectomy on Tuesday, 15th June 2021.

The symposium aimed to communicate the experience of surgeons to their colleagues by presenting the board students to cases as a scientific and academic experience with an attendance scientific meeting after a two-year interruption due to the corona pandemic.

It concluded that laparoscopic surgery is in constant development, and it needs to provide its own devices and tools and increase the efficiency of young surgeons through sustainable training.

The symposium was inaugurated by the Director of the Media and Public Relations Division, Chief Engineers, Hasan Y. Abdullah. It consisted of one scientific session chaired by the supervisor of Mosul Training Centre (Iraqi Council for Medical Specializations), Prof Dr Nashwan Q. Mahjoub.

Four cases were presented by the council’s students:

-Laparoscopic Management of Big Sliding Hiatus Hernia

-Laparoscopic Management of Achalasia Crdia

-Laparoscopic Management of Raptured Hydatid Cyst in Liver

-Laparoscopic Management of Acute Appendicitis

The symposium was held under the patronage and presence of President of University of Mosul,Prof. Dr. Qusay Kamaladdin Al-Ahmedy, in the presence of the Dean of the College of Medicine, Prof Dr Basil M. Nathir Saeed, and the Nineveh Department of Iraq Physicians Syndicate, Dr Muhammad S. Al-Huri. It was also attended by the professor of the pioneer generation of laparoscopic surgery in Iraq, Prof Dr Muzahim Q. Al-Khayat (Former President of University of Nineveh) with a number of teaching staff of the medical faculties of Mosul and Nineveh universities (current and retired. In addition to a group of specialized doctors from the Nineveh Health Department as well as officials, supervisors and trainers of the aforementioned center for laparoscopy surgery and other medical specialties and postgraduate students. On the sidelines of the work, a number of distinguished professors who had a distinguished role in laparoscopic surgery were honoured by the Doctors Syndicate.
