Awareness Seminar at the College of Medicine: “Smoking Under Medical Light”

The Psychological Counseling Section at the College of Medicine, in collaboration with the Department of Studies and Planning – Sustainable Development Unit at the University Presidency, organized an awareness seminar for the college’s faculty and students on Wednesday, 26/11/2025. The seminar was titled “Smoking Under Medical Light: Biochemical and Histological Changes” and was held in the Dependability Hall.

The seminar included two lectures:
1. “Biochemical Changes in Smokers” presented by Dr. Raghad Khalil Ibrahim.
2. “Pathological Histological Changes in Smokers’ Lungs” presented by Dr. Elaf Abdul Wahab Hamdi.

The seminar aimed to raise awareness among students and faculty about the dangers of smoking and its impact on certain biochemical and histological parameters, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals:
– Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being.
– Goal 4: Quality Education.

The seminar concluded with the following recommendations:
– Smoking causes a wide range of biochemical and histological changes leading to various inflammations, chronic diseases, and cancers.
– Quitting smoking gradually restores the body to its normal state.
