Senior Biologists Wafaa Sabri Eid Finishes Discussing her Master’s Thesis Successfully

Senior Biologists Wafaa S. Eid, affiliated to the Department of Pathology, College of Medicine, completed her master’s study “on the effect of a number of plant extracts on experimental kidney infection caused by Escherichia coli bacteria in albinistic rats” on Wednesday, 8th September 2021.

The study included isolating Escherichia coli bacteria from pathological samples and diagnosing them with Vitek2 device, and testing the effect of the aqueous extract of the cabbage seed, parsley and frankincense on it inside and outside the vivo as potential alternatives to antibiotics. Most of which have become ineffective due to the increased resistance of bacteria to them.

Kidney function tests, which included urea, creatinine and acid and base phosphatase, showed that these substances have low toxicity to the kidneys, while histological studies of the kidney and bladder revealed slight changes in rats treated with the mentioned substances.

After the discussion, the committee’s decision was read included accepting the thesis and granting the student a master’s degree.

The Deanship and its members of the college appreciate this distinguished scientific effort, wishing her continued success.
