A master’s thesis submitted by the student Areej I. Saeed Al-Hayali was discussed in the College of Education for Pure Sciences, University of Mosul on “the fatty components of hypothyroid patients in the city of Mosul” on Thursday, 7th October 2021. The thesis was supervised by the Lecturer Dr Muhammad H. Al-Saati and accompanied by Assistant Pro Dr Muhammad A. Jassim.

The study included the collection of sixty samples of people with hypothyroidism (male and female), and sixty samples of healthy people who do not suffer from any apparent diseases. Thyroid hormones TSH, T3 and T4 were measured using the enzymatic method with the TOSOH-360/JAPAN apparatus. Several biochemical parameters were also measured in the serum, as the levels of total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG) and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) were measured by enzymatic method and using ready-made analysis kits.

The results showed that hypothyroidism affects in general the metabolic processes of fat as well as the effect on the level and percentage of fatty acids especially polysaturated fatty acids (PUFA) inside the body.

After the discussion, the committee’s decision was read included accepting the thesis after making amendments to it and awarding the student the master’s degree.
