A master’s thesis for the Department of Biochemistry discussed the study of different levels of thyroid-stimulating hormone, free thyroxine and free triiodothyronine and all of which were recorded for pregnant women, submitted by the student Marwa M. Naif on Tuesday15th February 2022.

The aim of the study was to determine the reference levels of specific thyroid hormones for each trimester of pregnancy.

It was concluded that the reference levels of thyroid hormones are similar to what has been recorded elsewhere, and that the upper limit of thyroid-stimulating hormone across three trimesters of pregnancy is approximately 4 ml IU / liter, but the lower limit is 0.25 ml IU / liter for the first trimester.

The discussion committee consisted of Prof Dr Samira M. Al Kateb (Chairman), Assistant Prof Dr Afraa M. Al-Amin (Member), Dr Sari Kh. Mohi El-Din (Member), and Assistant Prof Dr Hazim A. Muhammad (Member and Supervisor).

Part of the discussion was attended by the Deputy Dean, Assistant Prof Dr Humam Gh. Ibrahim. It was also attended by some heads and teaching staff of various scientific departments and a number of postgraduate students.

After the discussion, the committee’s decision was read included accepting the thesis with doing the necessary amendments and awarding the student a master’s degree.
