The seventeenth annual conference of the Middle East Academy of Otolaryngology was held in Dubai for the period 17th -19th March 2022. More than a thousand specialist doctors from different countries of the world participated and attended the conference, including two teaching staff from the Department of Surgery of the College of Medicine, Prof Dr Ali A. Muhammad, and Assistant Prof Dr Haitham A. Al-Nouri.

The conference discussed the latest developments related to hearing, cochlear implants, and rehabilitation for patients suffering from hearing problems, chronic sinus infections, snoring, apnoea, and imbalance problems.

It recommended the necessity of examining hearing impairments for new-borns to ensure their early detection and to include this examination in the new-born screening program as it helps treat hearing diseases early and reduces cases of deafness among children through cochlear implants.
