A doctoral dissertation in pharmacology

A Doctoral Dissertation in Pharmacology in the College of Medicine entitled “Comparison of the Effect of Insulin with Oral Anti-Diabetic Drugs on the State of Oxidative Stress and Inflammation Markers”

A doctoral dissertation in pharmacology was discussed in the College of Medicine at the University of Mosul on Sunday, 30th April , 2023. Part of it was attended by the Vice- President of the University of Mosul for Scientific Affairs, Prof Dr Mounir S., Prof Dr Thaer Al-Samman, Dean of the College of Administration and Economics, and a number of college teaching staff and those interested in scientific affairs in addition to a family researcher.

This study, presented by the student Labib H. Abdullah Ahmed, dealt with “Evaluation of the status of sugar, lipids, oxidation, antioxidants, and inflammation in blood serum, for newly diagnosed diabetes mellitus patients and patients treated with drugs (insulin, climax, and metformin) in order to study the possession of these drugs for anti-inflammatory properties. Antioxidant and anti-inflammatory as well as their hypoglycaemic action. It was concluded that metformin has an anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-lipid disturbance effect, followed by insulin and then climepride in addition to the weight-reducing effect.

The discussion committee was chaired by Prof Dr Nabil Nز Fadel Hadid / College of Medicine – University of Nineveh. Assistant Prof Dr Humam Gh. Zubeer / Vice- Dean of the College of Medicine and Assistant Prof Dr Hazim A. Muhammad / from the Department of Biochemistry – College of Medicine and Assistant Prof Dr Harith Al-Qazzaz / College of Pharmacy – University of Mosul and Assistant Prof Dr Ibrahim M. Faisal / from the Department of Pharmacology – College of Medicine and under the supervision and membership of Assistant Prof Dr Qassem S. Abdullah / College of Medicine – University of Nineveh.

The doctoral dissertation was accepted after the student defended it and answered all the questions. The discussion committee praised the seriousness, integrity and quality of the work done by the student and his keenness to present his best.
