Medical Education Unit (MEU) Overview

About the Unit
The Medical Education Unit administratively report to the Dean of the College of Medicine. It is established on February 3, 2013 and aims to apply global standards of medical education at the college.

Vision

To achieve excellence in medical education standards, keeping pace with the rapid global developments in medical education.

Mission

To provide the teaching faculty at the College of Medicine, University of Mosul, with the latest internationally recognized educational methods in medical education. The unit seeks to improve the educational services offered by the college and to build partnerships in medical education with similar colleges locally, regionally, and internationally. Its goal is to graduate highly competent students capable of delivering outstanding healthcare services and embracing self-learning and continuous development.

Objectives

The unit aims to:

  • Develop faculty expertise in medical education
  • Coordinate and modernize work in the Assessment Committee in line with international best practices
  • Offer high-level educational and training opportunities for teaching staff on recent medical education concepts
  • Maintain up to date medical curriculum and ensure continuous improvement
  • Monitor and evaluate academic programs based on solid scientific foundations
  • Promote a continuous transformation in medical teaching methods
  • Attract distinguished faculty members locally, regionally, and internationally and build lasting partnerships
  • Work toward national and international program accreditation

 

Organizational Structure

The Medical Education Unit consists of a number of permanent and temporary committees specializing in managing curriculum and academic programs to ensure excellence in undergraduate medical education.

Permanent Committees:

  • Curriculum Committee (CC): The committee strives to develop a modern, high-quality medical curriculum that supports the college’s mission in education. It ensures alignment with international standards and responds to the evolving needs of students, faculty, and the healthcare system.  Chair: Assistant Professor Aws Hazem A-Numan
  • Assessment and evaluation Committee (AEC): The committee aims to build a strong evaluation system that reflects the college’s goal of excellence in medical education. It follows global standards and aligns with the principles in the college’s official assessment strategy. Chair: Assistant Professor Rana M. Raoof:
  • Program Evaluation Committee (PEC): The committee is committed to continuously reviewing and improving the medical program to ensure its quality, relevance, and impact. It uses evidence-based methods and global benchmarks to assess outcomes, support decision-making, and enhance educational effectiveness. Chair: Assistant Professor Ali Abdul-Rahman Younis
