Active Participation of the Deanery of the College of Political Science, University of Mosul, in the Peacebuilding Center’s Symposium on the Role of Civil Society in Peace

The Peacebuilding and Social Cohesion Center at the University of Mosul held its scientific symposium on the role of civil society in promoting peace on Tuesday, 4 March 2025. Several researchers and specialists from various relevant university colleges participated, including the Dean of the College of Political Science at the University of Mosul, Assistant Professor Dr. Tariq Mohammed Tayeb Dhahir. He presented his research paper titled “Mechanisms for Developing Civil Society’s Role in Promoting a Culture of Peace,” which discussed the key aspects of strengthening the role of civil society organizations, focusing on the challenges they face, especially in the Iraqi context, and ways to develop their strategies to enhance a culture of dialogue and peaceful coexistence.

The symposium was divided into two main sessions. The first session addressed the reality of civil society’s work in promoting social peace, focusing on how to spread a culture of peace and community dialogue. The second session discussed ways to develop civil society’s role in consolidating the culture of peace, emphasizing future solutions for improving NGOs and mechanisms for enhancing their work. Among the attendees was the Scientific Assistant, Assistant Professor Dr. Khairallah Subhan Al-Jubouri.

The symposium was held under the patronage of the President of the University of Mosul, Professor Dr. Wahid Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, and supervised by the Director of the Peacebuilding Center. It aimed to renew and correct misconceptions about the importance of this vital topic, especially in the current phase that Nineveh Governorate is experiencing.
