The College of Political Science at the University of Sulaimaniyah, in collaboration with the Center for Genocide and Peacebuilding Studies, organized the First International Conference on Peacebuilding in Iraq (ICPI 2025), held from 14 – 15 May 2025. The event witnessed the participation of dozens of university presidents, deans, scholars, and academic researchers. Representing the University of Mosul were the Vice President for Scientific Affairs, Professor Dr. Abdulrahim Ibrahim Jasim, and the Dean of the College of Political Science, Assistant Professor Dr. Sohaib Khalid Jasim Al-Taie.

On the sidelines of the conference, a bilateral meeting was convened between the deanships of the Colleges of Political Science at the Universities of Mosul and Sulaimaniyah. The two parties reached a preliminary agreement to initiate academic and scholarly collaboration. This cooperation is to be implemented through reciprocal academic visits by faculty and students, the organization of joint workshops and seminars, and coordinated efforts to develop periodic research projects. These endeavors are expected to strengthen institutional ties and promote academic integration, particularly in areas of shared interest.

The primary objective of the conference was to provide a rigorous academic analysis of the ongoing political crises and challenges facing both the Federal Government of Iraq and the Kurdistan Regional Government. It aimed to propose logical and scientifically grounded solutions to address bilateral and internal disputes. In addition, the conference explored the potential role of Iraq as an active player in both regional and international arenas.
