The First Session of the Industrial Advisory Council Discusses Integrating Applied Research into the Mission of the College of Political Science, University of Mosul, and Updating Curricula to Strengthen Their Relevance to the Labor Market

The Dean of the College of Political Science at the University of Mosul, Assistant Professor Dr. Suhaib Khalid Jasim Al-Taie, chaired the first session of the Industrial Advisory Council on Monday, 16 June 2025.

The meeting discussed the college’s vision and mission, along with suggestions from employers to incorporate applied and research-based elements that serve the local community. Discussions also covered updating curricula across all academic stages, in accordance with the percentage limits allowed by the Ministry of Higher Education. Proposals were made to organize scientific conferences and training workshops in collaboration with national and international institutions, and to explore ways to enhance students’ analytical and creative thinking skills and to develop the capabilities of faculty and technical staff. The council agreed on practical steps to improve academic programs and expand research and scientific partnerships.

The meeting aimed to enhance the college’s performance at both academic and administrative levels through a comprehensive review and update of its vision, mission, and objectives. It also sought to implement practical steps to improve curricula and educational programs in line with contemporary needs. Another key goal was to link educational outcomes with labor market requirements by involving employers in shaping academic development, reinforcing a culture of quality and academic accreditation, and achieving excellence in scientific research and community service. Additionally, the meeting aimed to strengthen partnerships with official institutions and civil society organizations to ensure effective integration in university performance.

The meeting was attended by all members of the Advisory Council, a well-balanced group that includes members of the College Council alongside representatives from the Departments of Migration and Displacement, the High Commission for Human Rights, the Electoral Commission of Nineveh, the Norwegian Refugee Council, and various civil society organizations.
