The College of Political Science at the University of Mosul and the Center for Regional Studies Organize a Joint Symposium on Regional Escalation Trajectories in the Middle East

The College of Political Science at the University of Mosul, in collaboration with the Center for Regional Studies, organized a joint academic symposium titled “Iran, Israel, and the Trajectories of Regional Escalation in the Middle East”, held on Wednesday, 18 June 2025.

The significance of this topic lies in its critical focus on one of the most sensitive and complex regional conflicts, offering a comprehensive strategic and intellectual understanding of the Iranian-Israeli conflict. The symposium explored the geostrategic, ideological, and regional dimensions of the conflict.

The event aimed to analyze the historical and political roots of tensions between Iran and Israel, assess current and potential future scenarios for escalation in the region, and provide a scholarly evaluation of the conflict’s impact on the security and stability of the Middle East. Additionally, it examined the implications of the conflict for Iraq and its regional positioning.

The symposium opened with a welcoming address delivered by the Dean of the College, Assistant Professor Dr. Sohaib Khalid Jassim Al-Tai. The scientific session was chaired by Professor Dr. Jamal Kamal Ismail, a faculty member in the Department of Public Policy, and included five scholarly papers.

The event was held under the patronage of the President of the University of Mosul, Professor Dr. Waheed Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, and was attended by the Director of the Center for Regional Studies, Assistant Professor Dr. Tareq Mohammed Tayeb Dhahir, along with dozens of faculty members, academics, and interested participants, filling the discussion hall to capacity.
