Dean of the College of Political Science at the University of Mosul Chairs Meeting of the Committee for Combating Extremism and Deviant Ideas

In line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) — Goal 4: Quality Education, Goal 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, and Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals — the Dean of the College of Political Science at the University of Mosul, Assistant Professor Dr. Suhaib Khalid Jasem Al-Taie, chaired a meeting of the Committee for Combating Extremism and Deviant Ideas on Wednesday, 6 August 2025.

The meeting included committee members: the Deans of the Colleges of Arts and Archaeology, Professor Dr. Hatim Fahd Hanno Dhiab and Professor Dr. Yasmin Abdulkarim Mohammed Ali, as well as the Director of the University’s Department of Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance, Assistant Professor Dr. Alaauddin Ali Hussein.

The meeting discussed the strategy for the 2025–2026 academic year to develop a program for combating extremism and deviant ideas within public and private universities and colleges. Emphasis was placed on the role of university students as the core of the educational process and key influencers in their academic and social environments.

The meeting also addressed the importance of promoting values of moderation, tolerance, and acceptance of others, and of fostering a culture of dialogue through awareness seminars and joint workshops involving both students and faculty members.

The participants stressed the need for collaboration and integration among university colleges and research centers to develop practical and enlightening programs aimed at raising students’ intellectual awareness and protecting them from extremist and deviant ideologies.

The committee will continue to hold meetings periodically to follow up on the implementation of its recommendations and review proposed programs, in order to ensure the achievement of the intended goals of promoting moderate thinking and combating extremism within the academic environment, God willing.
