Assistant Lecturer Nawar Basil Mahfouz Publishes a Research Paper on Conveying Empathy and Compassion through Poetic Language from Mahmoud Darwish’s Poem Think of Others
In line with the Sustainable Development Goals, Goal Four: Quality Education; Adab Al-Rafidain journal published the research paper of the faculty member of the International Relations Department at the College of Political Science, University of Mosul, Nawar Basil Mahfouz, entitled: “Conveying Empathy and Compassion through Poetic Language in Mahmoud Darwish’s Poem ‘Think of Others’: A Speech Act Study”, in September 2025.
The study focused on how speech acts in poetry can evoke empathy and compassion in the audience, emphasizing that our actions carry impacts that go beyond the self to reach others. Through the critical analysis of the mentioned poem, the research highlights the role of poetry as a powerful medium to express human values and to convey messages of peace and profound human connection, thereby reinforcing human solidarity and demonstrating the strength of poetic language in transmitting human emotions.
For her part, the College Dean congratulated the researcher, wishing her and all the teaching staff continued excellence and success in the fields of science, knowledge, and creativity. May God grant success.
