University of Mosul – College of Political Science Holds an Awareness Workshop on Breast Cancer: Knowledge and Prevention

In line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being, the College of Political Science, University of Mosul, held an awareness workshop titled “Breast Cancer: Knowledge and Prevention” on Tuesday, 14 October 2025.

The workshop featured a scientific and medical lecture delivered by Asst. Prof. Dr. Alia Abdulaziz Najm, Chair of the Joint Board of Medical Research and Treatment Centers and Head of the Oncology Department. The session was moderated by Chief Senior Engineer Hasan Younis Abdullah, Head of the Media and Government Communication Division.

Breast cancer is one of the most common types of cancer among women worldwide, caused by abnormal cell growth in breast tissue that may lead to benign or malignant tumors. Raising awareness and promoting early detection are among the most effective measures for reducing mortality rates, as early diagnosis significantly increases the chances of complete recovery.

October of each year is recognized globally as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, during which efforts intensify to promote health education, encourage women to perform regular self and medical examinations, and spread a culture of prevention by adopting healthy lifestyles — including balanced nutrition, regular physical activity, and avoidance of risk factors.

The workshop was held under the patronage of the University President, Prof. Dr. Waheed Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, and under the supervision and presence of the Dean of the College of Political Science, Asst. Prof. Dr. Sohaib Khalid Jasim Al-Ta’i. The event was also attended by several members of the College Council and a number of faculty and administrative staff.
