The College of Political Science at the University of Mosul holds a scientific workshop featuring the presentation of the book “A Visual Journey to the Past” by researcher Shirin Sheikh Kalo

In line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, the College of Political Science at the University of Mosul organized its scientific workshop that included the presentation of the book “A Visual Journey to the Past” by researcher Shirin Sheikh Kalo, on Monday, October 20, 2025.
The workshop aimed to shed light on the contents of the book, which documents the researcher’s journey in recovering images from Iraq’s past — encompassing its diverse communities in general, and the Yazidi community in particular — and analyzing them within a social and cultural context that reflects the suffering and resilience of this component.
The workshop also discussed the importance of documenting collective memory and promoting the values of diversity and tolerance in Iraqi society by supporting research and writing projects concerned with the human history of all Iraqi communities. In addition, the event featured a video presentation on peaceful coexistence at the university and the college, which received widespread appreciation.
This workshop falls within the framework of the Peaceful Coexistence Program that the Ministry aims to promote and which the University implements through its various colleges, including the College of Political Science.
The event was held under the patronage of the University President, Professor Dr. Waheed Mahmood Al-Ibrahimi, and the supervision of the Dean of the College of Political Science, Assistant Professor Dr. Suhaib Khalid Jassim Al-Ta’i. It was attended by several members of college and university councils, as well as academic, social, and religious figures who filled the Scientific and Literary Forum Hall.
